Back In The Saddle

Okay.........it's been ages since I've posted...babies have been born, buildings have been built..yada,yada,yada..

Anyhooo this is my latest project...it's a drawing of a fairy..don't cha know. I am really enjoying this subject matter.  I love fantasy art and there are so many that do it better than I...but like I said, I'm having fun. A few seem to sell along the way which is always a good thing. I've done a few commission pieces since my last post, so it's not like I've totally deserted my paint brush.

I think I might keep this one going on my blog as a WIP...we'll see.

I've been keeping up with everyone else's work that I follow on line, and I must say some lovely work is going on.

Christmas was great....got both my boys cell phones. You should have seen the "look of stupid" on their faces when their Dad and I had the phones ring under the tree while they were still wrapped! Priceless!!!

Hubby takes off to Barbados on New Years day to see his family for a couple of weeks. It won't be that great a visit as he will be seeing his nephew for probably the last time. His nephew was diagnosed with ALS a year and a half ago....so sad. He is in good spirits though and seeing his fav Uncle will be good medicine.

So...I went back to work at my parttime job today...it's in retail...at a very well known Canadian department store....and let me just say, the "good will shine" has officially come off the holidays!!!! Fiesty shoppers out there people ...needing some drugs or alcohol or both!!!

I'll sign off on this post and hopefully get another pic up with this piece of art further along...and remember shoppers....there is no death in retail...at least not yet!!! ;=)

Fairy Sketch

Thought I'd throw this sketch up...not sure where I'm going with it..we'll see.

I started a few projects but then with my usual brilliance...sliced my finger open with an exacto knife while I was packaging some art to send off...I wonder if they'll notice the blood on the package - maybe they'll assume I truly suffer for my art (and....no I didn't really send it with blood on it). I did go to the doc and I remember telling her I'd rather give birth to a third child right there and then, than have her poke at it....hurt like a b#tch!!

So finger is healing nicely and I'm back in the saddle again...drawing and painting. It's worth a mention that I had to keep the cut dry...sooooo, no dish washing for me - much to my sons horror!!

Now don't leave me a bunch of pity comments about my booboo...I have survived and milked this puppy for all it's worth...did I mention the tetanus shot??????

Moving on......maybe I'll post this one when it's done and.......maybe I won't.

Italy

I've always wanted to go to Italy.....who doesn't, right?? My girlfriend moved there years ago. She use to holiday there every summer and one time she met an Italian fireman (talk about your combinations..double whammy!!).
We facebook all the time and she's having a great life.....She invites me to go visit her all the time, but the closest I've come is drawing it( I did this one a while ago).  You know how it is...family, work, life....maybe one day I'll get there........

Love Me Some Furniture To Paint!

I'm always on the hunt for a good solid piece of furniture. Doesn't have to be fancy...just in good condition and made of real wood......then I paint it and sell it.  Well sometimes I keep it.  Not this one though.  I sold this one and my customer loved it.  I liked the fact that you could use it in your child's room then move it to a hallway, mudroom or even the kitchen for storing linens.

Spring is here and with that comes the opening of the flea and antique markets....Yay!!  I'm going to head up to the Aberfoyle Antique Market this year....I've never been.  It looks great...outdoors with lots of vendors bringing goodies to sell, some real bargains to be had!!  I'm sure there are some pieces there in need of a new life with some handy dandy painting from yours truly....we shall see!!!!!

No. 8

Did I ever mention I love horse racing?.........I do.  I worked at a couple tracks when I was younger and fell in love with the horses I groomed.  I always felt it was a privilege to work with them. They were really big and always on the muscle.......they allowed me in their space.

I'm still very close to the industry....my "other half" works at Woodbine (big racetrack in Toronto) and I go as often as I can.  My  boys occasionally go in to the track as well (they're 15 and 12) and they love to see the horses up close and have developed a real respect for them.

Needless to say over the years I've expressed my affection for them in my art.  This one....I did a few years back(okay...more than a few years).

Thoroughbred racing starts at Woodbine this weekend and I look forward to the inspiration it brings to my heart and my artwork.

Work In Progress Part V

Done, done, done....took the piece to her last night and she was very happy.

My next commission is much darker..I'm looking forward to it. Maybe I'll post it when it's done. I don't know if anyone wants to see another WIP...LOL.

Once again, thank-you for your kind comments.

Work In Progress Part IV

Almost there.

Work In Progress Part III

I have to finish this painting today. Am I the only one who always manages to bring it right down to the wire?? Even when I think I have plenty of time...apparently...I don't.

So I guess that's my cue to get off the computer and get busy painting.

I'll post 2 more pics of this WIP and then it's on to the next commission looking up at me from my table.

Thank-you to those who have commented on the postings of my WIP.........you have been very kind.

Work In Progress Part II

Okay, so moving along. I have my background wash in and have started with a little foliage to give it depth. I like to keep it simple...can you tell??LOL

Not a lot to say at this point. The next post should have a little more oomph to it...fingers crossed!!

Work In Progress Part I

I know it's been awhile since I posted, but hey...bite me, I have kids 'n stuff.

So..here is a commission piece I am working on and as usual I'm down to the wire on this one. It's due in a couple of days...did I mention I paint sloooow? It's a fairy(duh!). I've used some photos of my clients granddaughter to resemble her a little bit.........I had to stress "this ain't no portrait".

I'm pleased with the drawing and composition and fingers crossed, the painting will go well..guess we'll have to just wait and see. Check back if you're interested, as I'll post more as I work towards the finish....Cheers!!

Valentine Keepsakes

So I decided to do these keepsake valentines...they may be a little late for this year, but I figure love is a good thing anytime.

The idea is ..... instead of putting the valentine in a drawer after the big day is over ...... this lets you keep it out and look at it all year long. Every time you see it you're reminded that someone loves ya.

You can or your valentine can, keep it on a desk, dresser or a bedside table ....... anywhere you need a little love. The keepsakes are original watercolours that I did and I found these great frames for them. I picked frames that were kind of shabby chic and a couple that were more sleek or contemporary.

I might do some for other special times of the year...I like the idea of having them out where I can see the love!! Hmmmm, gets me thinking maybe Mothers Day.

...........let me know what you think!!
